Energy transition in Romania: CCE receives permits for 4 more PV projects with over 230 MWp

Bucharest/ Vienna, 11.03.2024. In 2024, Romania will become a hotspot of the energy transition for CCE, the international specialist for renewable energies. After construction began in 2023,
After the start of the 42 MW solar power plant in Horia in the Arad region, the CCE Development Romania SRL team has now obtained further building permits and grid commitments for 4 more projects that will supply over 130,000 households with green electricity in the future.

In 2024, CCE will make the energy transition even more visible: The international PV specialist CCE plans to build projects with a total capacity of over 400 MW in its core countries. Romania is also the focus of the construction activities, explains CCE-Romania Managing Director Johannes Srajer: “Over the past two years, our team has developed projects at an incredible pace and brought them to maturity. The country offers excellent conditions for us to
To make the energy transition visible quickly and efficiently and to implement projects that are ready for construction.” CCE is therefore planning to start construction of further large-scale ground-mounted plants with a total nominal capacity of over 200 MW before the end of this year.

In addition to the existing building permits, CCE has now also received the grid commitments (ATR) for the Izvoarele (62 MWp), Peris 1 (61 MWp), Peris 2 (57 MWp) and Crevedia (54 MWp) projects. As a result, these power plants will also achieve “ready to build” status, which will enable CCE to start construction before the end of this year. Together with the Horia 1 project, which is already under construction, CCE’s solar power plants in Romania will produce almost half a million megawatt hours of green electricity in the near future – roughly equivalent to the annual household electricity demand of the Romanian city of Arad (145,000 inhabitants).

Rapid construction progress in Horia

Very good construction progress is already visible at the Horia 1 solar power plant. Last week, for example, the pile driving of the PV substructures began. The two co-CEOs of CCE, Martin Dürnberger and Jörg Menyesch, were able to see this for themselves and visit the construction site during a meeting with local partners: “It is impressive to see the speed at which we are driving forward the energy transition here. Horia 1 will be connected to the Romanian power grid as early as autumn, and as the first of several projects in Romania, it is of course a very special event for us. Our mission of realising the future is transformed from a slogan into a tangible reality. We are proud to be able to show our partners and investors here on site what CCE is capable of,” the two CEOs add.
